Music City BMX was
originally named
Dixieland BMX and was named
that since its creation
back in 1979. Yes,
the track as been here
that long. It was
built by a group of BMXers, one
of whom was Randy Moore's
father. Randy
Moore and his daughter
still race at Music City
BMX today.
Here are some
pictures of that land
breaking event that
created one of the best
tracks in the country:
As
you can see the first
thing that was completed
was clearing the ground.
It took a lot time and
people to get this
ground ready, but they
got it done. And
they were all just as
they are today,
"Volunteers".
Then came the heavy
lifting of the front end
loaders that finished
off the clearing of the
land. The land by
the way is tucked in
nicely right off the
lake of Percy Priest.
Back during this time the
kids and parents all had
lots of fun at this park
that has long since been
forgotten. The
beach front at this
parks lake side as been
eroded away and left
with just a muddy and
rocky entrance to the
waters. There was
a concession
stand there that the
city maintained and it
still stands today,
although it is no longer
manned or operational.
Back at this time it was
operational and open
every day of the week.
It also had open and
working restrooms, that
today is also closed.
Who knows maybe if
Music City BMX keeps
growing we can convince
the city to restore the
beach and open the nice
brick concession stand
and restrooms that they
built so long ago.
That alone would give
the track a lot more
traffic and
visibility.
But to look to the
future, check out our
list sponsors
here, its growing
......and we are always looking
for more. |
